Antenna will be mounted on the roof of 393 Main Street, smack dab in downtown!
WMCB-LP 107.9 FM Greenfield, GCTV's low power community radio station, is planning to move its transmitter and antenna from the north side of a giant metal warehouse building located in northern Greenfield, to the roof of their own building in downtown Greenfield at 393 Main Street.
The change in location would also bring an increase in the elevation of the antenna, from a ground-mounted 40' pole, to the roof of a 60' building. This means WMCB's broadcast footprint will be more centered on Greenfield's downtown, and increase the strength of the signal.
With the move, several pieces of equipment will be also replaced with newer models, including a transmitter upgrade to stereo broadcast (instead of mono) with song-info capabilities. And as it will be housed in the same building as the DJ booth, it will be possible to eliminate needing to use Internet hardware to reach the transmitter -- we can hard-wire the connection from the back of the DJ mixer board on the first floor straight to the transmitter and antenna on our roof using shielded hard wire.
The Internet hardware would be freed up to use for high quality remote location broadcasts, including the annual Vintage Fest, various parades, popular events at the fairgrounds, and other local events of interest to residents of Greenfield.
With approval to mount the antenna on our roof by the building's condo association, and approval for the move from the FCC, all work should be completed in April, 2026.
Below are photos of the roof and the elevator room where the antenna pole will be mounted, as well as rooftop views to the north, east, south and west.
