WMCB-LP Redesigns DJ Studio As Signal Is Improved

Volunteers bring power tools and enthusiasm to a fun project

With planning starting in November of 2025, GCTV's LPFM Committee (Low Power FM), comprised entirely of WMCB DJs, a schedule of technology and general studio upgrades was laid out, beginning with moving the transmitter and antenna location to the roof of our building.

April 27 and 28 we hired local contractor Louis Hale to install the new antenna support pole and affix the new FM antenna. Aaron Read and Michael LeClair of R&L Broadcasting were hired to spec and install the new antenna and a new transmitter, and ensure we were broadcasting in stereo for the first time.

May 14 the work week playback schedule was cleared of all show reruns, and new straight wires were run from the first floor to the third floor to enable the final touches on the tech upgrades.

May 30 Aaron returned to complete the technical upgrades, utilizing the new wire run to the transmitter for even better broadcast audio, and improving the streaming signal. While he worked on that, several DJs came in to redesign the studio for better workflows and to create more room.

On June 15 this redesign work will be completed, bringing a cassette deck into the mix, as well as an actual reel to reel deck, just for fun.

These upgrades will transform WMCB into a more dynamic and inviting place to create fun and informative radio shows for the community to share.
