LPFM Committee Discusses Fundraising and Station Slogan
Minimal attendance clears way for more intimate reflection on deeper meaning of WMCB-LP
The meeting started off with greeting Steve Chelmsford of the radio show "The Mop Tops and the King" to the station for the first time.
In between bites of pizza, WMCB-LP Committee chair Sean Griffin then led a discussion of possible options for a fall fundraiser for the station, with a costume party of some kind planned for Saturday, October 24 as the keystone event. Mik Muller suggested the event be promoted during the two weeks leading up with all DJs and show producers mentioning the fundraising efforts during their shows, leading up to the party, which could be DJed by our own DJs.
The goal is to raise $10,000 for the station, half of which will be used to pay the annual hard-costs of BMI/ASCAP/FCC and hosting and streaming fees. The other half will go towards a paid part-time position to support Jazler and MP3 file management, relieving GCTV staff of that work.
Meeting attendees were then shown the new DJ studio upgrades by DJ Vincent Dan Gogh, which included new "acoustic paneling" (4'x8' foam boards) on the walls and ceiling in an effort to reduce sound escaping into the general office area. Dan and Mik plan to complete that work in the coming weeks, with a goal of allowing live acoustic music to be recorded in either studio. More details to come.

Station Slogan
Next up was a spit-balling session of potential new station slogans. While "last on the dial, first in our hearts" has been used by the DJs and staff for years, both on and off the air and on posters, it was never actually voted on as the official slogan. Many phrases were suggested, including some by Chat GPT through Logan Bryan's prompts...
- The Buzz of Greenfield
- Side-B / B-Side Radio
- River Static Radio
- Front Porch Radio / Frequency / FM
Nothing was settled, though the attendees thought "Front Porch (something)" seemed pretty good. To be decided at the September LPFM meeting.
After a group photo was taken, Sean and Steve each recorded a show promo for the PSA slots in Jazler. These two new promos join the ones already running by Mik, Dan, and Dan/TY, interspersed with random songs played by Jazler's autoplay in between scheduled shows. All WMCB-LP show producers are invited to create their own up-to-ten-second promo for their show, mentioning only their initial/live air time (not the repeat date). Contact Mik for details, or record one at home and email it to psa at wmcb dot net.
After that, Mik and Sean reviewed the RadioJar reports, which showed a clear, consistent increase (more than double) of online streaming of the station after April 28th, when the new transmitter and antenna went up. It is anticipated that listenership will increase again once school starts and more local organizations begin sending in PSAs on a regular basis.
There was a short discussion on reducing the number of all-DJ meetings to just twice a year, with the first potentially being in January, when annual DJ fees are due and the coming year is ahead, and then in June, before summer hits and plans can be made for outdoor events WMCB can participate in. Pizza and seltzer will be provided at these events.
The next LPFM Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 14th at 6:00 at the station. We will vote on the official WMCB-LP station slogan, and begin marketing plans around it.
A WMCB DJ Retreat is also being considered as a backyard BBQ and bonfire sometime in late September, perhaps on Friday the 25th, and which may start off with the committee meeting.
Stay tuned!
