What are a WMCB-LP Live DJ’s Responsibilities?

As a WMCB-LP live DJ, you are responsible for the following when you are on-air, and right after your show:

  • End your show at the :58 minute mark, or :59 at the very latest. DO NOT start a new song when you have only two minutes left. Instead, draw out your ending and goodbye perhaps with a promo of other shows coming up, or local events people should be reminded of.
    • Going past 60 minutes means you are extending your show into and over the next show. Not good.
  • Stop the recording of your show in Audacity, and if there is a DJ right after you, immediately export your show to your folder, clear your track, and start the recording for the next DJ. Smoothe handoffs make for happy DJs.
    • Edit your show if you need to and there is time.
    • When exporting your file, PLEASE include the date of the airing in the filename in 2026-06-09 format. The "zero padding" is important for both show sorting and finding shows on the website in specific time periods.
  • Upload your show to the website.
    • After the file is uploaded, Manage your files and add the track list to your file. This is required by BMI/ASCAP, and is helpful for your listeners.
  • If your show ends at 6:00 PM, the GCTV staff are waiting for you to finish so they can go home. Extending your show past 6:00 infringes on their personal time. Not good.

Things to think about while you're on the air:

  • Minimize the amount of dead air between tracks and when speaking. Unless your show plays after midnight, radio listeners are expecting either music or talking when tuned in. Excessive amount of silence during your show is unsettling, giving the impression that something is wrong.
  • Say the name of the station during at least two of your breaks, including the frequency, 107.9 FM
  • Do not just play album sides. Listeners can do that on their own. A good mix of music, especially music the listener may not have heard in a while or ever, separates us from the rest of the local radio stations.

Dont forget to promote your show to your family and friends.
